Singing
What a beautiful day. spring is here and what a wonderful day to start the season.
Balun and I woke up early, so we opened all of his windows, looked out to our big tree and listened to all the birds that live at our home. There was a kookaburra singing away and a crow sqawking.
I asked Balun what the crow was doing and he said singing to the Kookaburra. It was very sweet.
A little while ago we listened to a classic tale about a cunning fox and a crow.
The crow had found some food, flew to the top of the tree and was about to eat it when along came the cunning fox...... he wanted what the crow had so he begged for the food that the crow had.
This did not work, the crow was hungry and really wanted to eat it for her lunch.
The fox decided to charm the crow and tell the crow how beautiful she was. This was great for the crow as she had never felt beautiful.
The fox charmed the crow and made her feel like the most beautiful bird in the forrest.
After all that charm, the crow felt wonderful. Hoping the fox had charmed her enough he asked again for the food, but she nodded, no and held onto her delicious meal.
The fox then cunningly asked if she could sing for him, knowing that she would because she felt so special. The crow thought this was the least she could do for him.
She sang.
She sang with all her might, with all her heart.
Out came the food right into the fox's mouth.
The crow didn't stop singing because all she could do was sing and feel beautiful inside and out. It sounded like a horrible sqwak (as crow's do) but to the crow she was singing and singing beautifully.
So today when I was sitting with my little man on his bed listening to the birds, I smiled while the crow sung to his friends.
Next time you hear a crow, think of it singing and singing beautifully, rather than a horrible sqwak.
I think in life we shouldn't assume. No one really knows others circumstances.
Behind each and everyone of us we have a story or stories. It's easy to judge and assume things.
I remember seeing "never assume" on the back of a car and it has stayed with me since.
When I find myself assuming or placing a judgement I try and remember that saying "never assume".
Just like the crow, who would have thought that horrible voice and scary appearance is just a bird with precious voice tyring to feel beautiful.
