Love Tokens
I have started giving love tokens....
I have filled a wooden bowl with feathers, beads, hearts, crystals, anything that is beautiful. Each item is a love token.
Bridie and Balun have decorated a glass jar and each time I notice them doing something nice, something kind, lovely, unexpected, brave, thoughtful.....
they are able to choose a love token and place it in their jar.
At the end of the week or sometimes weeks we count them and they are able to choose to do something on their love list.
The list was compiled together and it has such things as;
Cooking something delicious with mummy,
Go on a special date with mum or Dad,
Buy a little treat or something sweet,
Go somewhere special together (we love drives in the country finding fairy gardens and creeks to splash in.)
Read extra books at night,
Sleep in mum and dad's bed (which they sneak into anyway)
and so on...
This list changes.
I read this blog (Mockabee7) which gave me the idea of the love tokens, she has four boys so one of their treats was wrestle time. The love list could be anything your family desires, dreams of or just wants more of.
My kids have just loved the idea and all it has done is nurture their caring, kind and gentle little hearts. We have been doing for almost a year now and it still is a big part of their worlds.
sometimes they will let others choose a token from the bowl or will be on the look out for beautiful items to add as tokens.
Some days I have had to take tokens away from them.
When they were grumpy or rude, stubborn, or not listening as any child can be.
They tend to be cautious about what they do for the rest of the day as they don't want another one gone.
It is just part of our world at home now and some weeks we have forgotten about it but it always comes back and I love seeing their smiles when out of the blue I say go and get 10 tokens for something lovely they have done.
