Beaming
Today we spent the morning at Kindy with Bridie. We gathered together after our morning outside and read a story about a wombat that tried and tried to fit in with his friends, tried to be part of a play his friends were organising.
The wombat was too big, too sleepy, to short.......the story ended with him finding a part in the play that suited him. The wombat was standing there in a ray of sunshine beaming.
Karen, the kindy teacher then begun a conversation about feelings and what the word beaming meant.
The group was then asked to look at the wombats body language as that may help them understand the word beaming, as most of the children thought it meant happy, which it kind of does but the word Karen was looking for was PROUD.
This then lead into a conversation about sharing our own experience of when we felt proud.
The children began talking and were so eager to share their special moments.
Beautiful Bridie sat and listened to all those amazing stories from the children, soaking it all up and storing it in her heart and mind as Bridie does.
We then ventured outside after our lovely time together as a group and I was talking to Karen and what followed was one of my most proudest moments.
Karen explained how Bridie was a perceptive person, sensitive the people and situations around her, she is beautiful and that she would love to see Bridie as a grown person, a woman as she will make a difference to the people in her life, to the world. I was blown away, I think the world of Bridie but to hear it from someone else was amazing.
I walked away and cried a little happy tear. That was the kindest, honest and most beautiful thing to say about a child.
The world is full of colourful, perceptive, creative, kind and loving people.
It doesn't matter how smart, clever or beautiful we are, it's what we do in our life, our actions, our love, sensitivity and empathy towards others and situations.
One thing I love about Bridie is she absorbs this wonderful world around us like a sponge. You can't push her to tell you how she feels or what she sees, what she has learned, it comes out when you least expect it. Her words flow freely, her mind wondering about those feelings, situations, friends and moments she has soaked up in her day.
We all perceive things differently, we can never assume. One thing we can do is listen, listen to the world, listen to others and soak up and hold moments close to your heart.
Be proud of what you do and beam when are in a proud moment or sharing your proud moment with others.
Everyday we learn and see things but don't take notice of the them. I decided to stay a little longer today at Kindy, chose to listen to a group of children share their proud moments and sat in on a story about a wombat. All these things lead me to one of my proudest moments. I am happy I chose to stop and soak up a bit of my day just as Bridie does. It was worth it.
Thank you to Karen and Wendy, Bridie's beautiful Kindy teachers for allowing Bridie to experience, grow and open her world to some of the most warmest and wonderful experiences.
I wish you many beaming moments.
