Dear bridie and Balun
There are moments when I have to stop and just be in the moment, lock it in my heart for keepsake, these are just a few..
Balun, as we were driving you stopped me talking to Dad and said, " mum, I have something to tell you. "If I could wish for one thing it would be to go to the clouds and bring back our Buttons for us. I would love her."
Bridie, for your Pa's birthday you collected all the flowers you could find and made a paper vase.
You then asked me to find out Pa's favourite colour so you could paint the paper vase.
The colour he loved was green, you filled it with the colour green and then taped it to a wooden board from Dad's shed. The board was filled with special words.
You got dressed up in your new dress, your hat when you were a baby (which I can't believe still fits you) and carried it to the park to give to him. It brought a smile to my heart as it made me remember the most beautiful gift comes from the heart not a shop.
Balun as we were driving, you said, "mum I have some great news, you love Dad."
The laughter we shared in the car, under the those big fluffy white clouds, in the water, on my shoulders, in my arms, on the grass, on the beach, at a movie....
Looking through my dear friends photos of her trip to India, you were both so interested. We got to see our friend wrap a cobra around his neck, put their hands in the Gangie river, talk about and look at the beggars and their homes, the temples, forts... but most of all you loved the story of the most romantic building in India, the Taj Mahal. We spoke for days about this amazing story trying to understand it all.
Bridie; listening to you sing out loud and out of tune to your favourite songs and watching Dad smiling as he glances at you in the revision mirror as he drives.
Dad telling you that he loves me. You ask why, he replies, " because she is beautiful," Bridie you look at me and smile and say, " I know that Dad because I locked that in my heart."
The wonder and awe in your eyes.
The longing to see your little cousins and best friends, Sunnie, Leni and Marley.
The chitter chatter and curious questions you ask Balun. Please remain curious, it is the most powerful tool in this world and you have that deep inside you. You are filled with wonder and curiosity. I love it because I can lay with you talking forever about this big wide world and you.
The stiff little legs you get Balun and the anger in your belly when you get cross. I know you feel frustrated sometimes but I can't help but smile a little because you look so damn cute.
And of course, my little Lucy Loo (Bridie) your knocking things over, dropping nearly everything you carry, zoning out, breaking plates and bowls, spilling drinks, twirling around and around, only wearing little undies and being so free.
It is just you and I would never want you to change. Keep zoning out, twirling, wearing what you want because you are in a wonderful world. You are immersed in the imaginary, glorious world of Lucy Loo.
